Parallel Robotic Handling
Parallel Robotic Handling with Data Integration in PPI Systems ProSys Laser Trimming Software
(Ottawa, ON) Feb. 2021 As the complexity and unique nature of customer requests for laser resistor trimming continues to evolve, PPI Systems is taking advantage of the advanced customization options of its ProSys system control software. More and more customers are asking for automation features which include the integration of industrial robotics to provide cost reductions, improved quality and increased production.
One such customer, a major US manufacturer, required the customization of the RapiTrim laser resistor trimming system to include parallel, robotic substrate manipulation, along with automatic feed forward of piece specific data from multiple points in the manufacturing process. ProSys software is designed to provide this type of rapid customization, allowing quick design turnaround for customers. The complex system shipped in February and has been successfully added to the customers production line.

“As customers strive to maximize their return on capital investment it is incumbent on equipment manufacturers to provide the capability to seamlessly leverage data from the entire production process at any given step.” states David Conroy, Director, Software Development at PPI Systems. “It is no longer sufficient for any piece of equipment to stand alone as an island. Equipment must be flexible, with intuitive ease of use, to realize the full potential of complex, state of the art manufacturing.”
PPI Systems Inc., located in Ottawa, Canada, is a leading supplier of laser material processing and test systems. The company provides a broad range of turn-key solutions to the interconnect and electronic component market for via drilling, circuit processing, resistor trimming, and high precision micro-machining.
